Choose Happy!! It’s a now thing.

It’s a wonderful new year. We always like to think that come January 1st we have a whole big year to accomplish all sorts of great stuff. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really work that way. Unless your work offered you a paid sabbatical, you probably still have to go there and do that. Blah. And unless you were able to hire a full time house staff or assistant you probably still have to clean, cook, run errands, and all the other things that take up time. It’s hard to tell sometimes if all that busy work is just part of life…or if it is life. Is life just an overwhelming pile of busy work and chores?

Kind of. Sorry. But it doesn’t have to be that way 100%. There are all sorts of ways we can overcome that. That’s what I’m working on this year. 2019 is the year Abigail, that’s me, makes changes!! I’m changing my life to increase both my productivity and my free time. That is as hard as it sounds. Productivity usually implies that time was not free. So it’s all about the hustle and gettin’ stuff done. I’m a full time worker, I have a big house to take care of and my new baby blog. Like any loved baby, this blog takes up all of my free time. So my adventure this year is growing my blog and finding ways to balance my other obligations around blocks of very needed free time.

Choosing happiness is something that we CANNOT put off no matter how busy we are. It doesn’t even take up that much time. But it is all in the planning and the spontaneity. That sounds like a contradiction. It isn’t. Life is full of two kinds of events, planned ones, and spontaneous ones. Either one can be awesome or turn out bad. Both are necessary. We have to plan or we will never truly accomplish anything. However, we also have to seize random opportunities or simply allow things to happen when they will. As an example, you may have a very tight schedule today. Your head is buried in your planner. Kids, if you have them, or pets are vying for your attention. The phone keeps ringing. The house is a mess. You run out to check the mail. Then you hear a flock of Canadian Geese fly overhead, or you see the most perfect blossom on a bush (all depending on your location and weather). Take the moment to stop. Really look at it. If you have your phone in your pocket, snap a pic. Post it with a snappy hashtag like #choosehappy. That’s a spontaneous moment that only took a couple of moments to enjoy and share so that others can enjoy it.

Love the day you’re in
